Pune, 14 February 2022: After the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) issued a revised order on February 3 for “unlocking” after lockdown measures due to the coronavirus disease (COVID19) pandemic, there is there was confusion among restaurant owners and license halls about closing times. Many owners have alleged that the police filed khatla cases for opening until late hours.
The PMC ordinance stipulates that hotels, restaurants, bars, food courts, cinemas, auditoriums can remain open with a capacity of 50% according to their usual hours.
“Due to no specific time mentioned, the local cops come to take action and threaten to register the FIR for an offense under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The case is then settled with only Khatla,” one restaurateur said.
Another resto-bar owner said: “The action increases during the weekends.”
According to police officials, restaurants must close at 11 p.m. while bars and permit rooms can stay open until 1:30 a.m.
Pune Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta also confirmed the timings.
