Grimsby’s iconic pub is set to be relaunched as a cocktail bar and restaurant

An iconic pub and restaurant in Grimsby is currently being refurbished ahead of its relaunch this month.

The Friary, now known as Boston Brothers, has placed a notice on its windows informing customers of its intentions to provide outdoor seating for food and drink.

He seeks permission from North East Lincolnshire Council to obtain a roadway licence.

The new owners of Boston Brothers, County GY Ltd, applied on January 14.

Grimsby Live understands it will be relaunched as a cocktail bar and restaurant and the exterior of the building shows that renovations are underway.

The bar reopened on December 18 and is currently undergoing renovations.

The sign placed outside the Friary states that they wish to obtain a pavement license in order to accommodate outdoor food and drink seating

It has a large main bar with seating areas, modern decor and a beer garden.

The pub has a long history dating back to 1860.

It was also previously known as Bar DN31 and Edwards.

In November it was announced that the pub’s owners at the time, Mitchells & Butlers, had closed the venue and were selling it to new owners.

The venue has long had a good reputation for service and quality food and beer.

On TripAdvisor, some customers have recommended the bar which has a rating of 3.5 out of five.

A September reviewer said, “Can’t believe the price! Will be back and the service was excellent too. Could do with a lick of paint but nothing to fault the place.”

A review from June said: “The staff are always friendly and helpful. Was treated to a warm welcome and drinks are very well priced.”
